Where do I begin? I've always enjoyed making things. Completing a project gave me a sense of accomplishment. When I had an accident and my hands were paralyzed it became my therapy.
My eldest child was born in the early eighties. A time when fabric and yarn stores were abundant. I made her and her cabbage patch doll, Beverly Charlene matching outfits. Halloween costumes, no problem. She was quite enthralled with my home crafted creations. Then suddenly she was a teenager and that was the end of that.
But wait, there was still cross stitch and embroidery. So I busied myself with that.
Then the accident. The vertebrae between c4 and c8 were compressed. I had what we referred to as Barbie Arms. The pain was like my arms and hands were on fire. Thank you Jesus for Lyrica.
Time moves on. Children grow up. Partners pass on. And then someone tells you that you're too old to work. So what do you do with all of this life experience and time? Well I'll tell you. You move in with your widowed sister, who is also a Fine Arts Major. And you get a couple of cats.
As you're clearing out her art studio to make a bedroom you come across, wait what is this? It's a huge box of old costume jewelry. What the heck? Then you start delving into the box deeper and deeper.
You get on your phone and start to scroll. Then the next thing you know it's 2AM and you've gone down a rabbit hole.
That's it. That's my story. Not only have I discovered old things can have new life, but so can I.
